Admission Requirements

The basic requirement for entry into residency training for all residency training programmes, except Emergency Medicine, Laboratory Medicine, Radiation Oncology and Radiology, is a pass in the Part 1 (Membership) Examination (GCPS) or the Primary of the West African Colleges (WAC).

For residency training in Emergency Medicine, Laboratory Medicine, Radiation Oncology and Radiology, selection will be based on an entrance examination and an interview.

Applicants to the residency programmes must have a recognized and registrable medical or dental qualification. The applicant should be fully registered and would have completed a period of housemanship training and one year district rotation as required by the Ministry of Health, Ghana. All Faculties expect that their residents would have rotated through the major specialties of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Paediatrics before starting the residency training programme.

Applicants will attend a selection interview. References from Consultants who have worked with the applicant will also be necessary. The admission process will be Faculty based, and the criteria used may differ from Faculty to Faculty.
